Administrative HistoryElizabeth Harries, the widow of a Welsh clergyman and formerly in charge of Exeter Penitentiary, was superintendent at Whitelands from 1846 to 1872. She replaced Julia Fields as the Lady Superintendent but was not the effective principal as Rev Harry Baber was appointed at the same time. Between them they ran Whitelands until 1872, when they both retired. She worked closely with the College's patron, Angela Burdett-Coutts.
