DescriptionThis series consists of correspondence with, writings by, a press cutting about, a photograph of and documents presented to Claude Goldsmid Montefiore. It also includes a document titled "Extracts from the Diary of Lionel Prager Goldsmith now in the Possession of his Great-Grand-Daughter, the Dowager Lady Swaythling." The writings are titled "College Opportunities" published in Child Life, "From Aspects of Judaism being Sixteen Sermons by Israel Abrahams and Claude G. Monetfiore," "Social Justice: Sermon Preached at the Liberal Jewish Synagogue" published by The Jewish Religious Union, and "Some Thoughts on Friendship: A lecture delivered at the Maria Grey Training College on March 25, 1898" printed by Horace Hart Claude. Two handmade documents were presented to Mr. Montefiore on the occasions of his marriage and his seventieth (70th) birthday by the Froebel Society and staff and students of the Froebel Educational Institute. Of note, the birthday document includes a list of students and staff, including household staff, senior students, representatives of college societies such as the Guild of St. Francis, Michaelis Guild and Nursery schools attending or employed at Froebel Educational Institute in 1928. The press cutting is titled "Jewish Froebelians in England" and was printed in The Jewish Chronicle. Correspondence is with Eglantine Jebb and former British Prime Minister, Arthur Balfour. Goldsmid Montifiore was treasurer of the Froebel Educational Institute between 1892 and 1917 and Chairman between 1917 and 1938.
