Administrative History | The academic year 1968-9 was the last for the College Council set up under the 1950 Instrument of Government. Under the new instrument, the Whitelands College Foundation (or Association) was set up, an independent association with its own legal powers. Its Council of Management became the governing body of the college. It was also agreed at this time that there should be co-opted student members on the Academic Board and on the College Council. The National Society retained its interest and support through its position as a corporate member of the Foundation and by appointing five members to the Council of Management (which could have 29 members).
Members of the forerunner College Council signed the Memorandum and Articles of the new Foundation on 16 September 1960, and its incorporation was granted on 15 October. The Council of Management took over responsibility of governing the college on 3 February 1970. [Sources: 1969 and 1970 Annuals].
Subsequent amendments came in 1978, 1991 and 1997.
