Administrative HistoryDonald Alec Edgar (Don) Taylour (1920-2007), BA Geography Oxford 1948, MA (OXON) 1949, PGCE London 1951, was appointed as a member of Whitelands College teaching staff on 1st September 1958 and remained at the college for twenty years. He was educated at / had previously taught at Sir Walter St John's Grammar School for Boys, Battersea, and served in the Royal Corps of Signals during WWII, attaining the rank of Captain (1944). He completed his degree after the war. At Whitelands he was variously lecturer in geography and teaching aids 1958-67, head of geography 1961-67, director of studies 1962-67, admissions tutor (from 1967) and coordinator of education technology. He was also a founder member of the working party and sub-committee of the Audio-Visual Communication Section of the Association of Teachers in Colleges and Departments of Education (ATCDE), and had other significant involvement with educational technology groups and events. In the 1962 Whitelands Annual, Principal Molly Saunders noted: ‘In April, 1962, responsibility for the co-ordination of academic affairs was taken over by Mr Taylour on his appointment to the rotating office of Director of Studies, and in addition he has put his specialized knowledge at the disposal of the College in connection with the new buildings. I am deeply grateful to him….’
