Date1876 - 1962
Extent52 books
DescriptionThis sub-fonds consists of fifty-two National Froebel Foundation student register books accumulated between 1876 and 1964. It documents registrations and examination results for a range of students , and provides information about subjects taken and the number of years studied. Of note, each books contains an index. Register books are arranged chronologically by date of entrance. Students who withdrew prior to graduation and then returned will have more than one date of entrance listed underneath their name in the book they were first registered in. For example, a student who first registered in 1950 and withdrew and registered again in 1955, will be listed as registering in 1950 and 1955 in the 1950 register book. Because of the Foundation name changes, the names of the registers change as well from the National Froebel Union to the National Froebel Foundation. Books vary in size. Smaller books measure about 25 by 45 cm. Medium-sized books measure from about 30 by 58 cm to 40 by 63 cm. The largest books measure about 48 by 63 cm. Hard covers are composed of fabric with leather in the corners and edges of the books. The books were manufactured by “C.F. HODGSON & SON Ltd, 2 Newton Street, W.C.2”. The majority of the books are paganised; a few by hand and the others by the manufacturer. Some pagination follows the index, other pagination follows the book. The register books cover: - The date of entrance - The previous College or School - Examinations Results per subjects, if not, the information is given in the item level - Dates of graduation Indexes are organised alphabetically by student name. Occasionally, names were added to the back of the book or on other index pages. This information was indicated each time on the pages with the names concerned.
