In 1974 the Principal refers to it as a weekly production of the Students’ Union. ‘We all find it invaluable and greatly appreciate the Union’s initiative and energy in maintaining [it]’.
Administrative HistoryOriginally called the Union Society, Whitelands College Student’s Union was established in 1947 after student ‘committee’ members, chaired by a Miss Wilkinson [it is not clear what this committee was] first met in March to investigate affiliating with the National Union of Students. All students were automatically considered as members. By 1951 the Union Society had a formal printed constitution and would later produce handbooks and weekly news publications. Its activities continued until the College’s incorporation into the Roehampton Institute of Higher Education (RIHE) in 1975, while the local edition of the weekly newsletter 'Bulletin' kept going until 1992.
